Joint Conference
Chairman's Welcome
Dear Florida Business Leader:
I am pleased to
announce that this year Florida will once again have the honor and
privilege, through Florida-Korea Economic Cooperation Committee’s (FLORKOR’S)
coordination, to host the next Korea Joint Conference and a visiting
high-level delegation of some 50 Korean business, economic
development, government, education and tourism leaders led by the
Chairman of the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) of
Seoul and the Secretary General of Korea-U.S. Economic Council (KUSEC).
The 2008 Korea Joint Conference program will offer FLORKOR members
from both the host city of Tampa and from all parts of Florida to
meet and network with the Korea delegation. Governor Charlie Crist
has been invited to officially host the event, and Korea’s
Ambassador to the U.S. is expected to participate as well. I am
pleased to serve as this year’s conference chair and in that
capacity, extend this invitation to you.
In recent years, Korea has
substantially reformed its economy and is close to finalizing a free
trade agreement with the U.S. The country has opened its doors to
trade and investment from abroad, and continues to be one of the
fastest growing economies in Asia. Korea has the highest per capita
use of high speed internet access in the World. Most recently,
Hanjin Shipping and the Jacksonville Port Authority announced a $360
million project, which represents the largest Korean investment in
Florida’s history. Korea now offers a wide range of opportunities
for Florida businesses looking for export or other business
opportunities there or for Florida organizations and companies
seeking inbound investment and import trade opportunities with the
country.
This year’s Korea Joint Conference
program will include remarks and presentations by top business and
government leaders, representing the most significant aspects of
business and relationships as well as ties of tourism, education,
culture and friendship between Korea and Florida. During the
conference, delegates will hear informative presentations from both
Florida and Korea leaders/delegates, and participate in exchanges of
opinions and ideas to promote greater friendship ties in these
areas.
FLORKOR has been hard at work preparing what will surely be a
memorable and outstanding event. With the support of leaders like
you, Florida’s official hosting of this event will provide
significant benefits for our state. Enclosed are sponsorship and
other conference material for your consideration. I look forward to
your active participation and to seeing you in Tampa during the
conference.
Cordially,
Chris Sullivan, Chairman
